Reagent Delivery Device Features Hydrogel Encapsulation Technology
The MicroPlant microfluidics-based device enables the precise encapsulation of aqueous molecular biology reagents within redissolvable polymer microspheres. The hydrogel encapsulation technology offers benefits compared to conventional reagent lyophilization, such as low wastage, uniform dosing and morphology, and low process costs. Applications include molecular biology processes ranging from food pathogen detection to real-time PCR and viral-load quantification. Large and small volumes of solutions can be accurately aliquoted into sub-nanoliter droplets that are converted to polymer beads. The microfluidic chips utilized are cheap components that can be cleaned to prevent contamination or disposed of in batch-type processes. Each encapsulation procedure can be performed under optimum thermal conditions that range from 200 C to -30 C. In the context of molecular reagent encapsulation, temperatures of 5 C to 37 C are most applicable.
