Invited
Symposia
At the symposium, “The Limits of Chromatographic
Efficiency”, speakers will address the fundamental limitations to
chromatographic efficiency, including packing structure and
intracolumn dynamics. Several novel approaches to improving peak
capacities through multidimensional separations and ultra-high
pressure methods will be examined. This event is planned for
Tuesday, March 14.
Thursday, March 16, “Rapid Food Analysis”
will focus on new approaches to improving speed and selectivity in
the extraction, separation and detection of various trace components
in complex food matrices. The topics of the symposium are critical
to government agencies and companies involved in public protection
against the use of biological and chemical weapons, food quality and
safety, and agricultural trade regulations.

Contributed Session Topics
“New
Developments in Portable Mass Spectrometry for Homeland Security
Applications” will be held on Thursday, March 16. The session will
highlight new uses for existing equipment, as well as the
development of new technologies to meet demanding requirements. The
emphasis of these talks will be on portable systems operating
autonomously or on demand.
A relatively new analytical tool
for the extraction and concentration of water, headspace and
atmospheric samples will be introduced Monday, March 13, at “Liquid
Phase Micro-Extraction (LPME), a Versatile Sample Preparation
Method.” The LPME method is similar in scope to solid phase
micro-extraction (SPME), except that it uses a new microdrop of
solvent at the tip of a syringe, rather than a fragile silica fiber.

Short Courses
Wednesday, March
15, Anthony Montana will present a one-day short course that will
provide an overview of the principles involved in “The Design and
Implementation of High Performance Work Teams.” The course is suited
for current or prospective team leaders responsible for establishing
or managing projects. Topics include team formation and management
methods, team building techniques and activities, problem solving
tools, and successful communication and reporting
guidelines.
“Language and Matter: Technical Writing for
Analytical Scientists and Managers” is scheduled for Saturday, March
11. The instructor, Anthony Parker, will help provide technical
professionals with the basic writing skills needed to communicate
effectively to business and technical audiences. The "hands-on"
examples include technical topics that are chosen based on the
scientific interests of the attendees.

Headspace Analyzer Provides
Objective Results Alpha M.O.S. (Booth 1139)
presents the FOX electronic nose. It achieves global analysis
of the headspace (volatile compounds) generated by liquid,
gaseous or solid samples. After training, the instrument can
assess the quality and origin of raw materials, guarantee the
quality of finished products in comparison with a standard,
and monitor a process to obtain the required quality. more>>> |
