Poster Sessions
Thursday, June 1, poster number 176 will cover the “Chiral Analysis of and Investigation of Matrix Effects on Ifosfamide and its Dechloroethylated Metabolites in Human Plasma by LC/MS.” Preliminary results suggested that solid phase extractions eliminate matrix interferences more effectively from biological samples and provide a more robust assay than liquid-liquid extraction and protein precipitation.
“Automated, High-Throughput Method Development for HTLC-MS,” is scheduled for Tuesday, May 30. The poster, number 197, explains that less than one full workday was required to obtain an optimized, fully validatible method for two compounds of varying polarity and functionality with minimal analyst labor and no hardware change required.

Short Courses
Eleven 2-day courses and two 1-day courses are offered Saturday and Sunday, May 27 and 28, at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center.
Martha Vestling and Kevin Owens will review the basic instrumentation and theory of Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry. The weekend-long course, “MALDI-TOF/MS: Fundamentals and Applications,” will cover current instrumentation and practice and include a discussion of the relative advantages of linear and reflectron instruments.
Chromatographers and mass spectrometrists who would like to learn about metabolomics should attend the subject-titled course scheduled for Sunday. Instructors Gary Siuzdak (Scripps) and Elizabeth Want (Pfizer) will discuss sample preparation, choice of ionization method and mass spectrometer, data preparation and analysis, structural characterization, and biomarker validation.
