Nanowire ‘Barcode’ System Speeds Biodetection in The Field
Detecting biowarfare agents in the field will become a lot easier thanks to a new barcode system based on biosensing nanowires developed by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) researchers.

The researchers, led by Jeffrey Tok of LLNL’s BioSecurity and Nanosciences Laboratory, built submicrometer layers of different metals including gold, silver and nickel that act as “barcodes” for detecting a variety of pathogens ranging from anthrax, smallpox and ricin to botulinum. more>>>

Purifier® Filtered PCR Enclosures Protects Work From Particulates Contamination.
HEPA-filtered air moves over the work area providing ISO Class 5 conditions. These specialized vertical clean benches provide a controlled environment to perform polymerase chain reaction experiments and include a variable digital timer that provides UV light exposure in user-selected increments of 5 from 5 to 240 minutes to deactivate DNA and RNA contaminants. Purifier Filtered PCR Enclosures are available in 2’, 3’ and 4’ widths.

Finding Computer Data Hiding In Plain Sight
Criminals and terrorists are hiding data within innocent-looking digital images thanks to a number of software programs now on the market. The emerging science of detecting such files — steganalysis — is getting a boost from the Midwest Forensics Resource Center at DOE's Ames Laboratory and a pair of Iowa State University researchers. more>>>

NEW! 3-D Electron Roughness Analyzing Microscope
The new 3D e-RAM is a field emission scanning electron microscope specifically developed for surface roughness analysis and topographic reconstruction. 3-D roughness measurements are obtained using signals from a 4-channel SE detection system that enables quantitative surface roughness measurements to a vertical resolution specification of 1 nm. The major benefit of this system is that it can produce AFM quality data, precisely where you need it, with a wider lateral and vertical measurement range.

Workshop to Explore Digital Forensic Research
Researchers from around the world were at Purdue University on Monday through Wednesday (Aug. 14-16) to take part in the sixth annual Digital Forensic Research Workshop.

"This workshop will bring together experts from a wide variety of areas — research, education, industry, government and law enforcement — who are interested in advancing the area of digital forensics," said Marcus Rogers, an associate professor in Purdue's Department of Computer and Information Technology.

"Purdue and the Department of Computer Information and Technology are playing a significant role in the workshop this year," he said. "About 30 percent of the reviewed presentations will be from Purdue students and faculty." more>>>
