106th American Society for Microbiology (ASM) General Meeting
Date:
Sunday, May 21 through Thursday, May 25, 2006

Location: Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, FL

The ASM scientific program offers an educational forum that provides new data from the research of basic microbiological sciences related to human and animal disease. In addition, scientific professionals are updated on GMP-regulated industry issues and new practices. Topics to be covered include bacterial physiology and pathogenesis. The meeting also enables attendees to investigate challenges in environmental and applied microbiology.

Exhibition hours: Monday, May 22 through Wednesday, May 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Special Events - ASM Lecture

Dr. Bruce Alberts from the University of California, San Francisco will present the ASM Lecture titled, "A New Approach to Science Education: How, Why and When?" The session will be held in the Valencia Room of the Orange County Convention Center, beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 21. A reception will follow at the Convention Center.

Special Session

The General Meeting Program Committee invited Dr. Richard Lenski from Michigan State University and Dr. Eugenie C. Scott from the National Center for Science Education to discuss the topic of evolution and education. “We’re Not in Kansas Anymore: Evolution and the Crisis in American Science Education” will also be held Sunday, May 21 at 5:00 p.m. in the Valencia Room, preceding the ASM Lecture.
